Preparing for 2023

Honoring Native American Heritage Month with gratitude for all their wisdom and teachings.

Many indigenous tribes consider all living beings to be our brothers and sisters. They are all “teachers” and will share their wisdom with us when we allow ourselves to be open and listen with the ears of our hearts and not just the ones on our heads.

I live on a small plot, two acres, and there is little space left around us. There are neighbors on three sides and a busy street in front. All our neighbors have large dogs, and they roam their parcels, running fence lines yapping at each other, territorial. Our property has become a sanctuary for the ground squirrels. They have found safety on our empty acreage and plenty to eat with the fruit trees but ohhhh… the holes they make in and under everything.

When things come to mind that make me sit up and go hmmmmm…I wonder at the message that waits and move into myself to listen for answers. I look up squirrel medicine in all the places one can find info about such things. I read about how they work in harmony with the cycles of nature by storing and saving, conserving for the leaner winter months when abundance is plentiful in the other seasons.

Listening, I am reminded to be a good steward of the abundance in my life, not just money and food, but me. Being a good steward of ourselves means putting ourselves first, calendaring us, and putting us at the top of our priority lists.

We can be good stewards of ourselves and our resources when we remain aware of the choices we make and give ourselves permission to choose only those that nurture and sustain us, feed our joy and fuel our passion.

We are becoming more and more aware of the necessity to conserve and be good stewards of our natural resources, using what we need wisely and with the next seven generations in mind.

When we honor the abundance, we are blessed with in our lives; spiritually, financially, and physically, we honor the Source of it all. Conserving and saving, storing up and being prepared are not acts of fear, but instead, they are, and I quote from DailyOM, “affirmations of abundance yet to come.”

When we work with the cycle of life, and are good stewards of our lives, it allows us to face the winter with faith that spring will come again. We recognize that change is a natural part of life, and we can be prepared, use our energy wisely and in our best interest and that of the planet and all of our “brothers and sisters”.

Going back to the squirrels, they are a tribe of their own. They are great communicators and with all their energy, they enjoy life’s adventures and help each other watch for danger as they live joyously. When I google squirrel medicine, I find on whatismyspiritanimal.com’s website, that “if your life and goals feel like they’ve ground to a halt, squirrel medicine gets you back up to speed.”

Just as the squirrel faithfully sows seeds as its nature demands, watching squirrels one might ask, am I sowing the seeds I need to continue and grow the life I want?

Winter is a time for reflection, for moving within, clearing out and preparing for the spring planting season.

  • What seeds do you want to plant in 2023?
  • Do you need to clear a space for that seed to grow?
  • What weeds need pulling?
  • How will you tend the “garden of your life”?

As the days grow shorter and the darkness longer, set your sights on 2023 and begin to dream the path ahead.

Joining you in gratitude for the abundance
