6 Ways Your Life Can Change When You Adopt an Optimistic Attitude.
Sometimes wisdom flows like a timeless river, nurturing the seeds of empathy and understanding in the heart of those who listen… This past week I have been listening.
I took a drive to the hills that was humbling – the aftermath of last year’s fires totally changing the landscape of the drive to my sacred waterfall.
I was stalking the fall colors that are trying to find their way out, we just haven’t had enough chilly weather so the splashes of yellow and orange were few and far between. My body reminded me that I am still healing as it twisted and turned in the driver’s seat as the car rounded bend after bend.
Another day of rest and quiet, gracefully accepting that I am on the mend but not quite there yet. Our bodies are such great teachers and mine has reminded me once again, that living gracefully does not entail a resistance to change but rather an embrace of the ever-changing nature of our lives. I am choosing to age gracefully (and take care of me along the way). After all, it is a sacred journey we are all on, is it not?
I am so thankful for the time I have had to be slow, to move quietly, and to sit with the cool morning breezes that blow through open doors. In the stillness of this “slower” pace, I have been gifted the voice of the hawks I rarely see but am reminded by their song that they are around. For the first time, the crows made themselves known to me here at this place we now call home. They were constant companions at our old house, and I am filled with gratitude for their conversational voices wafting through the trees. It’s like old friends coming to visit.
I am grateful for telephones and communication as I sit in CA and worry for a dear friend in AZ. Blessings in abundance for the medical folks there as she is now sporting a new pacemaker and God willing, a new lease on life.
My gratitude basket runneth over lately. My grandsons’ text this old lady the craziest of memes and call for rides and company. We even crafted a paper mâché’ horse head.
My sister and I took a drive together remembering the last one we took with our mom. October is mom’s birthday month. The family got together for teppanyaki to celebrate my nephew’s birthday, also an October baby and I got to visit with his beautiful little boys and their awesome mom. Married life suits them all well.
I am slowly finding my way back to being of service in my world, loving the gift of giving of myself and my time, and joyfully being out amongst people again.
Are you living gracefully in our chaotic world? Have you touched the stillness that surrounds it all?
What are you most grateful for this week? Take a few minutes each evening for the next week and make a list of at least five things you are thankful for. The first snow of winter or down under, the first blooms of spring, a child’s giggle, or an unexpected hug?
Where do you find the gift of giving in your everyday world? Bought your Halloween candy yet – maybe buy enough to donate to a trunk or treat in your area? Read a book to a child or an elder you cherish or even one you don’t know at all?
Be mindful in this next week of when you might gift someone a hand up, not just a handout.
Living gracefully, being grateful and giving of yourself in whatever way works for you, will change your life. The more you pay attention to the little things, to what you are grateful for and how your make your light a little brighter for yourself and others, the more aware you will become of how many wonderful blessings our world has to offer.
May this coming week of fun, tricks, treats, ghosts and goblins spill laughter and joy onto your path.
Have a wise and wonder-filled time ‘til we meet again…
