I was sitting in the waiting room at Sun Devil Automotive Center waiting on a new battery to be installed in my car. I read an article in the Foothills Focus community newspaper titled, “Relax through the ‘ber’ months.”
I thought I would fall out of my chair when the first sentence in the article said: “They should be more aptly called, the “blur” months”. Now that, I could totally relate to.
September was a blur… weekly FFT blog to write, marketing, creating and writing the Fall Equinox live event, prepping for the radio show and making it to all the life appointments that just seem to keep piling up on my calendar. Did I mention working on Episode Four of my upcoming podcast and proofing a Journal I hope to have published for the holidays?
October rolls around and I think breathe… right?
Make a plan, they say, and watch God laugh I heard whispered in my right ear.
We have finally made it back to our sanctuary in Cave Creek only to open the garage, get into the car to head to the grocery store before dark and what did we find? A dead car. Arghhh…
Thank God for neighbors, a trusty little red Ranger truck borrowed to get some food while we waited for OnStar roadside service. Estimated time of arrival 140 minutes…
Blessings be; food in hand, little red truck parked in the drive, and neighbor Jerry rolls in with an instant jump charger and started the car, checked the systems with some sort of handy tool he has and set it up on a powerful trickle charger.
OnStar cancelled; we settled in for the night. Yawn, long day.
I had a leather shawl to finish beading and get ready to ship off on Wednesday and do you think I could find my needle on Monday morning? Nope… hurry, let’s get to Michaels and pray the car starts.
Yeah, engine roared and off we went. Lots of driving should help charge the battery even more (or so I thought). Takeout in hand, home, nap, dinner, beading with The Voice singing away on the TV while hubby snored away in the bedroom.
Bead work well underway, I finally got to bed just about the time my tummy decided it didn’t like dinner. It was a long night.
Up early to get the actual shopping done for the house, you know more TP and paper towels, etc… birdseed and hummingbird nectar. The important stuff.
Jumped in the car, stepped on the brake, pushed the button and I swear the car laughed at me. Click, click…. No roar… bad word, bad word.
Hook up super charger Jerry left, wait for enough charge to get engine singing again and right to Sun Devil Automotive we drove… and that is where this story began in the first place.
It was a ‘blur’ few days tagged onto a ‘blurred’, September and it looks like October is off to a bleeping blur start as well.
But… I’m a glass half full kind a gal. Great service, a good article to tickle my food for thoughts and here I am optimistic about the rest of the ‘ber’ months.
How about you? Are you ready for Halloween, Day of the Dead, Octoberfest?
What plans have you ahead for voting? Thanksgiving? Have you seen all the Christmas decorations in the stores? They kind of clash with the fall colors and horns of plenty nestled in amongst the pumpkins and colorful gourds.
Contemplating the ‘ber’ months ahead, I remember to breathe….
Have you thought about what kind of holiday season you want?
Have you considered the possibility of putting you first and declaring this to be the season of reason and not the typical months of madness that you must endure into January?
It is possible, you know. You have the right to choose. Try these ideas on for size:
- Make a plan: set a goal, establish a budget.
- Calendar the days ahead and stick to them. Hold yourself accountable for the appointments you set, especially the ones that you make for you.
- Allow for lots of open space throughout the seasons.
- Practice saying no. I DARE you.
- Stick to the plan, the budget, the calendar BUT….
- Make space for spontaneity, leave room for creativity, bake a surprise or make a pie.
- Above all else, include gratitude in every day and have FUN!
I offer these tips with the best of intentions and humbly knowing there will be human days along the way…. I remind you – THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
May you breeze through the coming ‘ber’ months, seeing clearly the path ahead as you plan your way to a thriving start for 2025.
Happy Hunter’s Full Moon. Isn’t she just gorgeous this month?
Many blessings and fewer blurs.
