Thank you all for letting me share my journey these past couple of weeks. I am more comfortable with my world of trees and singing birds than I am in my own body most of the time.
Telling stories is my favorite hobby, but telling vulnerable, real in the moment stories can be a challenge. It feels like opening my favorite canned goods with an old fashioned can opener that has to make the hole and then pry its way through to the yumminess inside.
That said, here is the yumminess I have pocketed from the last couple of weeks. I hope to carry them graciously with me through the weeks to come as my heart and I work to find a steady rhythm and comfortable balance with each other.
This is for all of you who choose to rise after a fall…
- Start with gratitude, no matter what. Every morning and every night find something to be grateful for; another chance, a hand-up when you were down, a sweet smile, or a soft pillow to lay your head on.
- Listen to your body like it’s your eldest teacher. When it whispers listen, do it. When it hollers slow down, do it. If your breath gets caught between your words, ask why? Treat your body like it is the sacred vessel it is, not because it is perfect, but because it is authentically and uniquely yours.
- Don’t fear the pause. Rest is not just for the weary nor is it a weakness. Recovery is not laziness. A warrior of the heart knows when to lay down their weapons and refill themselves. The world needs its warriors to be strong in body, mind, heart, and soul.
- Rewrite the story. A dear friend once told me you can keep telling the same story or you could choose to tell a new one. When your mind starts spinning tales of fear, limitation, and what ifs, stop. Breathe. Remind yourself you are not a victim in your story, you are the author! Write a better ending, one that blows your skirt up.
- Let the small stuff go. Life is too darn short and complicated enough to waste it on petty worries, old grudges and other people’s opinions. Choose you first and if it won’t matter in five years, let it roll on down the road today.
- Celebrate every ordinary and extraordinary moment. Hot drink on a cold morning? Sacred! A kind word from a stranger? Medicine! Your breath, your heartbeat, the sun on your face? Miracles! Everyday in every way, is sacred medicine full of miracles everywhere, seen and unseen.
- End each day with forgiveness. It begins with you forgiving your body, your mind, your heart, family, friends, strangers, and the world. Remember you did your best today with what you had or were given and tomorrow you will do your best again.
May your days be blessed with kindness and joy, your nights blessed with sweet dreams and may you remember to listen to your soul’s sweet voice and the wisdom in the whispers in the wind.
