Watching Waves and Reading Reflections

  • by
you are the beautiful beach.

A wave challenges the beach with every tide that roles in. It challenges the beach-dwellers and the land-lubbers. The waves call out, “Catch me if you can…” or ask, “Can you withstand the force of my flow, time after time, day after day?” The beach is challenged every single day, every hour, every minute of every day and yet…

Look how beautiful the beach is!

It has been a challenging week, month, even last couple of years for our family and as I write this, I realize that I have let my challenges way-lay my intentions, my dreams… the stories I meant to tell have gotten washed out to sea and float there waiting on me to throw out a line and retrieve them.

It is so easy to stay in my comfy chair or sleep in an extra hour if the alarm doesn’t rouse me for something more important. Truth be told, “getting ‘er done” as I like to say, doesn’t happen in watching the waves. It comes in moving with them or against them (friction or challenge, by whatever name I give it), movement.

What challenges are you dancing with that are keeping you from living out your best intentions and sacred dreams?

Here’s a helpful hint…

Don’t wait for the tide to be gentle or wait until your path is clear ahead. Don’t wait for the fear of moving forward to recede, challenge your intention and reach out to that unattended dream that is floating just over that next wave.

Start where you are, even if the water is cold and the waves threaten to pull your feet out from under you. Let the wave challenge you. Let the cold water wake something up inside you and remember, you are not here to sit out the storm, you are here to become the storm!

I challenge you this week (and myself as well), to cast our lines into the surf and “know’ that our dreams are still floating out there waiting, resilient, just like us, to set sail for the horizon, fish our dreams out of the deep and row them back to shore. Now is the time to turn that dream into reality.

Here’s a little visual morsel for you to chew on this week…

When the waves are easy, jump over them. When the waves are too high, dive under them and surface on the other side.

When life turns dark, look for the light. When people or things don’t make sense, search out wisdom, and when you feel threatened, seek safety.

Take your stand on solid ground and let the waves of darkness, nonsense or fear flow around you.  As the wave recedes, pay attention to the reflection in the wet sand, a reflection of your dream and the beauty, love and light that YOU are, and always remember that #YouMatter.

Carve out some time for you as you enjoy the weekend and row your sacred dream back to shore. You are the beautiful beach.
