Water and Space to Breathe

what medicine do you need...

As the summer winds down and the grandsons head back to school, I find myself reflecting on what I want most out of this year. The answer was water…

A friend wrote in her newsletter (she lives in Hawaii) that one of the teachings she learned from her Kumu Malia, from lapa’au (plant medicine), was this… “If you are unwell, take a look around you. The plants, trees, waters, and land hold the energy you need. You simply need to look.”

Thank you Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici for that beautiful reminder from Hawaii, a place I hold deep in my heart.

Amber asks in her note, “What medicine do you need? Is there somewhere around you to go? Some place, land, water, wind, that carries the energy you need?”

I talked a while back about getting out and about to places that feed your soul and I just returned from our place in AZ that feeds mine.

Here in Clovis, on the land where we lived for forty years, I had a guest house. It was really my sacred space, surrounded by rock gardens, crystals, and statues, horses and space… Open space where I could see the mountains and the moon rise. I had space there to breathe.

I have come to realize as I sink back into the same ol’ same ol’, that I need to find water here. I am pool shopping now. Maybe not a realistic goal short term, but if this is where I am to live for the next decade or two, I know I am going to need water.

I seem to have digressed from where I started, the summer winding down and the grandsons return to school, but here is what I know now… there is a pool at their house and with them back in school, I can get in the water, everyday if I want to. I have permission, always have had. What I need now is my own permission to get off my arse and go to the pool where I know the water will feed my soul and the wind will caress my skin as the sun turns my pale body back into the bronzed tones I have lost to an indoor lifestyle.

What Amber reminded me of today is that there is support all around me for this journey I am on, and I am the choreographer of this dance of life. As she so beautifully reminded me, “Support is more than your friends or family. It is the very land and elements around you. All you need to do is open and ask”

What better time to remember this than on a full-moon weekend in August.

May you find the support you need for wherever you are on your journey.
