This week we got much needed rain along with beautiful lightning and roaring thunder. Torrential downpours accompanied at times by fierce winds, exquisite clouds, and inklings of sunshine. I’ve heard it said that the old year does not leave all at once and sometimes, as was this week, not so quietly.
This week I left the last of 2025, the year of the snake, shedding the remainder of those things that no longer serve me or those I have chosen not to bring into this new year of the Fire Horse.
I took a wonderful celebration and visioning class with writing coach Shanda Trofe and she gave us this powerful prompt (I edited it for all): “The shedding is now complete. I am now the person who…”

If you follow astrology or the Chinese New Year, you have undoubtedly heard that this is a pretty amazing time we entered on Tuesday as the Chinese celebrated by ringing in the year of the horse, but not just any horse. For the first time in 60 years, it is the year of the Fire Horse.
The Snake is often associated with wisdom, charm, and transformation. 2025 specifically carried the Wood element often associated with growth that happens through patience, planning, refinement, and steady inner change. It was a year of shedding the old skin (those beliefs, roles, and identities that no longer fit), moving with discernment but not urgency, and choosing ones truth quietly, not performatively.
The Snake of 2025, (a nine year in numerology), helped me finish what was complete without dragging any of my old stories into this next chapter.
We have now entered (officially), the year of the Fire Horse. The horse symbolizes movement, freedom, endurance, and forward motion. Add the element of Fire, and the volume gets turned up into bold, visible, passionate, and fast-moving life. This once every 60-year combination is spoken of as potent and memorable. The Fire Horse in this one year, asks me to choose a direction, strike a match, and move forward quickly and with diligence. Giddy-up GO!
Claim this new beginning and pick one brave direction, one promise, one flame you will nurture, tend, and grow. Move like you mean it, committed but not frantic, aligned and focused. The Fire Horse is not here to burn your life down. It is here to illuminate what is ready and waiting for you, to energize what is true for you, and to turn your inner wisdom into movement you can feel deep in your own bones.
No looking back. Honor the Snake and its final teaching showing you what was ready to be released without judgment but with gratitude for how it helped you become who you are today. Lift your eyes to the horizon ahead and listen for the sound of your Fire Horses hoofbeats. It is the sound of your readiness to move steadfastly forward.

May what needs to be spoken find courage and what needs to be released find space.
May what you have lived become light for someone else and your days ahead be wide with meaning.
