Watching History and Getting to AZ

  • by
A MOMENT in History

SPLASHDOWN! They are home.

Watching history in the making once again, I reminisced about watching John Glenn, watching the first footstep onto the moon, and crying when the Challenger exploded. Pioneers, courageous and brave, paving the way for what the world witnessed last week.

In my own little way, I am taking up the challenge to keep driving distances beyond my current comfort zone. It has been a year and a half since I sat behind the wheel with an asphalt ribbon stretched out in front of me, driving into a rising sun and watching it set in the rear-view mirror. It is a ten-to-eleven-hour drive to our other home in AZ and when I haven’t driven beyond my county borders in what feels like ages, it proved to challenge my commitment to take to the road and not the skies.

It is so much easier to fly but confining for me. I love the freedom of when I leave, which road to take, what to pack without limits to my choices, and the ability to take things like a box of cottonwood cuttings I hope to find a carver for. One who will use this sacred wood to create more beauty in the world and one I can commission to carve something for me to honor the beautiful trees I used to live with. Can’t do that flying.

Being in a car alone is where I find quiet, contemplating things that float in and out of my awareness and listening to my favorite authors audiobooks. I love the drives, my body not so much as it racks up the years. Taking care of me first gives me permission to break up the drive, stay overnight somewhere if I need to, make an extra stop or three if my legs need to move or my back stretch.

It was a good trip, a peaceful one and one that offered me wide vistas, food for my own thoughts and my cameras lens.

Here I am in my sanctuary in AZ, prepped and ready to open my home to a gathering of writers and our super coach. I am stoked to say the least. This was the purpose behind the purchase of this home long before it became our sanctuary.

Have you ever dreamed something into reality without realizing your actions were fulfilling a dream you might not have been aware of but when you look back you realize the magic you manifest in your physical life? That’s Rancho Tierra for me. I knew I wanted a place to stay when I was there, a place to host workshops and gatherings, a place for family to come together.

Little did I know the sacred space it would become and the new friends I would make there. It is a source of comfort, enveloping me in grace and peace when I slow down enough to just “be” there. It is my writing paradise.

  • Do you have a sacred space that fuels your joy and feeds your soul?
  • When do you find yourself there and what do you do to engage that joy?

I’ll be spending the next week writing and writing some more. I am working on the full version of Good Enemies and engaging with “them” is sometimes a challenge.😊 Right now, I am wrapping up my journey with Anxiety and can feel Denial waiting in the wings.

To the Journey Folks… enjoy the ride.
