A Week of Soaring and Waiting…

3.10.23 meme Are You Soaring Through Life or Waiting on Life to Show Up
It has certainly been an interesting week. I decided to “rest” over the weekend; no writing, no computer, just sleep, rest, TV, and of course checking in on the phone occasionally. I was able to resist the office door and ignore the “I know there is something I am supposed to be doing” voice that was nagging away when I was quiet enough to hear it screaming.

Let me back up a bit. I am sure most of you don’t know I am an avid “buyer” (online) and I hate shopping in stores. How’s that for opposites? This past week I was challenged to do both, physically go out and about and shop and then, make a decision on what to buy.

I drove my Arizona car home in January and discovered an interesting whine when I was heading up a long steady grade out of Needles, CA into Barstow. It didn’t seem like much, and I wasn’t aware of it very often (which could certainly be the fault of the wonderful audible book entertaining me on the drive).

Back home, I parked in the garage and settled back into CA routine until a couple of weeks ago when I realized that April was fast approaching with my drive back to AZ. I called the dealer repair shop and made an appointment for regular servicing and a check of what I was sure must be the transmission whining.

Long story short, they found more things to “fix”, replace, or service than I could keep track of. Every time I said yes to something, I got a call about something else. Stress heaped on top of life stuff, not my cup of tea. Car not worth what it would cost to fix it all and did I say I hate shopping? Park it and ignore, I’ll just wait on some answer to come along or let someone else tell me what to do.

A week later and dollars spent I hadn’t planned on spending; I am now driving a new used car… something else to learn. Have any of you ever figured out what all the bells and whistles on cars these days, actually do in the car?

Now let me tell you about the credit card. Geeeze… my bad. I saw a charge I didn’t recognize – too much shopping online and no memory of that big charge. I called the credit card company to say wait a minute, let me figure this one out before you put it through. Well, they cancelled the card immediately before telling me I had made the same charge in early February and sparking the memory of that class I decided to make payments on instead of pay in full. Crap!!!! Excuse my French or is that crappe’?

Replacement card came Monday after staving off auto pay calls from first of the month vendors with extreme apologies and requests to give me a few days to get the new card. Then car shopping took up nearly all of Monday and most of Tuesday and the email notices of cancelled accounts started showing up.

Wednesday, I spent the day on the telephone, calling and calling and calling. My website was down for a big part of the day (most of which I didn’t know), just as we were Celebrating International Women’s Day with a sale on my book Get Off the Shelf, and a freebie peak at the upcoming one.  Yikes, great way to miss an opportunity – Good news, we broke back into the top 20 in three categories and top 10 in one. Thank you all who supported the fun and I hope you enjoy the sneak read.

On my last call Wednesday before I gave up and steamed broccoli fresh from my daughters’ garden for dinner, I met a really special customer service rep at Audible (gotta take care of the book accounts, right?) She had the most beautiful name Saedah. She took care of me and we chatted for half an hour about audible books I really enjoyed like Greenlight (McConaughey) and Wildflower (Barrymore) and How Ya’All Doing (what a hoot) by Leslie Jordan. Saedah was taking notes and listening and engaging. What a breath of fresh air at the end of a stream of calls that were exhausting. Thank you Saedah and thank you Audible for hiring a great customer service person. It is a dying art.

Here I sit reflecting back on a week of soaring into necessary action and waiting on “stuff” to just take care of itself, writing and watching weeds grow in the sunlit days between storms.

Where do you find yourself soaring and when do you find yourself waiting?

May your weekend be blessed, and your week ahead filled with soaring moments.
