Be Brave, Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone – Ask!

Be Brave, Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone – Ask!

“Someone out there needs exactly what you’re afraid to show the world, and I know that can be a really daunting task, the idea of having to go out there and expose yourself and be vulnerable and be seen but, somebody’s life is going to be changed on the other side of it.” ~Brandon Leake

Be Brave, Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone – Ask! Do you still have stuff buried in the basement of your soul? Are you finding joy in what you’re doing? Not happiness, cause that’s a product of what you are doing, your circumstance, but Joy, that everlasting thing that doesn’t cease to exist even in the hardest of times. I listened to Brandon off and on as his words, his spoken wisdom, often sparks something in the depths of me and reminds me of some of my most important things, the things I want to share, to spread out in the world. He talked about joy requiring commitment where happiness is something that is searched out and short lived as one moves from this happy moment to another and drifts in the middle, in that in-between place that has shadows and pitfalls and pushes us to seek some other happy place.

Joy, on the other hand, lives deep in the recesses of our beingness. It is something we can all strive for that doesn’t cost a dime and is unlimited in its supply, an unbroken chain even though it feels like it has, sometimes broken just like we sometimes feel broken.

I have been blessed by so much in my life and still there remains deep in the recesses of my soul, an ache, an unfilled something that is calling me to dig deeper, look through the fog, to see into tomorrow and the path that lies ahead.

I have been asking myself that question, what lies ahead for a couple of years now. Writing has been and is, a most sacred journey and I am ignited every time I sit with the keyboard or paper and pen or the recorder on my phone. I take lots of notes, but I have not yet discovered, unearthed, or parted the fog to see clearly what lies ahead. I want to see the plan, schedule the next big ??, offer words to those in search of their own answers and yet… something is still lying, calling out, nagging me from within the deep recesses of my own soul.

So, I am here today, vulnerable, and open, teaching, writing to you all who listen so graciously, that I turned a small corner last night. You see, in all my thinking about what lies ahead, I have not planned out the search. I keep telling myself, finish this first, do that next, take another class, learn more and … all will be revealed.

What I have come to finally know deep in the bottom of my heart, is that I am searching out there for an answer when I should heed my own words and turn inward to listen, to discern and to discover for myself, what lies ahead. Great distractions from the truth we seek, are all those classes and projects and plans that need to be taken, learned, and done, right?

Last night I got a very unexpected call. I recognized the number and was surprised as I have been thinking about this person off and on for the past several weeks. Guess Spirit decided I had spun my wheels long enough and sent someone in to tap me on the shoulder and ask, ‘when are you going to take that deep dive?’ A gentle reminder that I have all the tools I need at my disposal and that I just needed to perhaps, take a guide along for a while to hold my hand, reassure me that I do have the answers and that when in doubt – ASK!

Here is what I want you all to hear as my truth today… when you find yourself trying to part the curtain, move out of the fog, “see” what lies ahead and you find yourself spinning your wheels in the gravel of distractions… ASK for help. Reach out to someone that you know has been there, done that and knows, perhaps from another point of view, how to find the elusive path you are trying to see. Someone who can offer some “kick ass” realism and energy to move you off your spinning wheels and offer to hold the sacred space for you to move into “you”, so “you” can see the path ahead. We are often so much better at teaching (and sometimes preaching) what is good for us and we get lost, forgetting to heed our own advice).

I did it! I asked… I just needed a reminder that all we all need is available to us in all ways, everywhere. Be it in a building, in a forest, or in the realms of the unseen that surrounds and supports us, our answers are there. I asked for help, and I am open to the beauty, support, and wisdom that awaits. I’ve called ‘my council’ together and now prepare for that sacred journey.

May you find always joy, step with purpose into each day and remember when you hit the gravel at 60 mph, don’t brake hard. Ease into the slow down and if you need some help, ask. Give yourself permission to choose you first and gift yourself the “hand” that is held out in front of you.

Learning always and seeking joy and asking for sacred assistance along the way.
