6 Ways Your Life Can Change When You Adopt an Optimistic Attitude

12.1.23 meme Fear, make it a good enemy

“I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.” This is a funny quirp sent to me by my good friend Kay. Laughter is the best medicine, eh?

I hope you all are settling back into your “normal” days following time with family and friends.

We had a wonderful couple of gatherings this year but that old “cold” bug struck and tried to put out the flame of our joy. Not so fast there, bucko! I’ll not let you ruin the holidays.

Hot showers, swim in a newly heated pool, meds from our great doc that is just a text away, lots of naps and the bug was beat down. Maybe not all the way out but on its way out just the same.

It was scary off and on at times… would we get to go; would all be well when we got there? Funny how all that “fear” comes creeping into the mind when “the not so ordinary” pops up for a visit.

It got me to thinking how grateful I am for all the tools in my kit – and an accessible anytime doc. Wrapping up the month of gratitude with a whopping THANK YOU for all that is right and right side up in my world.

Congrats to Leeanne A-S, Brend Mae P-M, and Devra J. for completing the 30-day Gratitude Challenge. Gratitude is a golden key that opens a world of opportunity beyond expectations and drama. It is the opposing force of fear, squelching it in its tracks.

When we consciously cultivate gratitude, it shifts our focus from what we lack or fear to what we appreciate and already have. It is a powerful and transformative emotion that can counteract the energy of fear in many ways.

Fear (now as a character in this play) takes center stage when we focus on the potential negative outcomes or perceived threats in our lives. Gratitude can redirect our attention in a more positive direction. Positivity and gratitude are the counter balancing forces to the pessimism that often accompanies fear.

This Good Enemy is a universal human experience, an instinctive response ingrained in our DNA triggering that fight or flight response and urging us to either confront the challenge head on or hide and seek safety both emotionally and physically.

Consider Fear as a friend that joins your journey periodically, challenging conventional notions and encouraging a mindset that harnesses this good enemy for personal growth and empowerment.

With each challenge you walk through with Fear by your side, you develop stronger courage muscles and learn that you CAN, no matter what the challenge Fear faces you with.

To embrace this Good Enemy, you must first understand that it is a natural response to what your mind perceives as a threat, be it physical, emotional or psychological. It is a survival mechanism designed to keep you safe in the face of danger.

However, in our world today, Fear often shows up in response to uncertainties, the unknown, the everyday challenge to maintain our equilibrium in an everchanging environment.

Consider Fear as a companion and another Sacred Tool.

    • Fear can serve as a powerful motivator, a good enemy that propels you to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals. Harnessed in the right way, Fear can be a driving force behind your own personal and spiritual growth.
    • Embracing Fear as your companion allows you to see it as a catalyst for positive change prompting you to step outside your comfort zone and explore new possibilities. This Good Enemy can teach you to adapt to evolving situations, aka life.
    • Fear holds valuable insights that can expose you to the root cause of your fear. By examining it, you uncover deeply held issues, unresolved emotions and unmet needs. Fear moves you, if you are willing, into yourself and your source of personal wisdom and self-discovery.
    • And finally, embracing Fear as a sacred tool, that good enemy, you build resilience. Facing your fears and navigating through challenges with Fear, you develop a robust resilience that equips you to better handle future adversities with grace and courage.

By embracing Fear as a companion in your life journey, you are empowering yourself to transform any perceived enemy into a catalyst for your own personal and spiritual growth. By understanding the role of Fear as a sacred tool, viewing it as a motivator, and adopting transformative practices around your fears, you can navigate life’s challenges with resilience and courage.

The journey of YOU embracing Fear can lead to a profound sense of empowerment and a richer, more fulfilling life.

Consider adding this good enemy Fear to your gratitude list.
