Blessed Be the In-Between

  • by
In between an eclipse and the equinox

The other day, I worked a bit too long at the computer and when I got up, I took off my computer glasses and reached for my everyday ones. They were nowhere on my desk, so off to the bedside table I searched, no luck. Must have left them in the bathroom on the sink. Nope. “Drat,” I muttered to myself as I plodded barefoot out to the living room to check the table beside my comfy chair. Not there either.

I usually hang them in the collar of my shirt, but they weren’t there. Hubby asked me what I was doing so I told him I was just flustered, “I can’t find my glasses,” I muttered as I headed past him to the kitchen. He looked up from his comfy chair and quite casually replies, “They’re on your head.”

A senior moment right there in my face, but perhaps also a perfect mirror of the eclipse and equinox energies of this past week. How often do I search high and low for what I already carry with me? This equinox time reminded me that balance is not always found outside myself; it is also a pendulum of balance I carry within.In-between.

The energy of this eclipse with its shadows and light, showed me how quickly my perspective can change. What was hidden one moment is illuminated moments later.

This past week, as the sun and the moon danced in their cosmic tug of war, as day and night stood in perfect equality, I realized how much of life happens in the in-between.

In-between here and there, between my being and my doing, in-between my thoughts and the words that make their way to paper.

Balance is rarely a fixed point or place in my world, it is in constant flux, moment to moment. It is the movement between my extremes, the still moments between inhale and exhale, and the laughter at realizing what I thought was lost, was sitting right there on the top of my head.

Perhaps balance isn’t something I achieve, but something I notice when I stop searching everywhere else and remember what has been with me all along.

I wrote this prayer the other night as I sat in the in-between moment of the eclipse and the equinox time…

Blessed be a new morning
Dawn‘s crisp and cold wind blowing
I step outside and see my breath
Welcome this new season coming
I can see the mountains snowcapped tops
White against a blue horizon
The sunrise warms my chilly nose
I bend to touch the Earth
Damp beneath my fingers
I can feel the energy of growing slowing
I stand and face the eastern sky
The hillside green the oak tree dry
I ask that all that is to be
Be blessed in this new season
For peace and love and knowing this
To grow in truth and joy
I turn and face the still south
It’s dawn lit street laid out before me
I know that spirit guides each step
I’ll take these coming days
I asked for quiet direction
May each word written each step taken
Be guided by the hand of God
Trusting the unknown, I turn and face the western sky
Still holding the coral pink of this new morning,
I think about the dream this year and
Whisper secretly to the morning air
I release it to the universe to manifest
Asking spirit as always to show me the way
I turn and face the northern sky
White billowing clouds abound
I see an elephant a bunny
And a dinosaur floating as they play
I’ll listen to the messages that come from the Divine
Through rocks and trees and clouds and skies
I’ll listen close throughout the months
For the sweet sound of Spirit’s voice
Whispering in my heart
I know as I stand in the center of me
Reaching up above
That all is well and all is blessed for this new season rising

May you find your balance in the days between summer’s end and the beauty that unfolds as fall brightens the hillsides with nature’s majesty before she begins her release and moves into the stillness of shorter days to come.

Grab your cameras and may you find a magnificent dance of color to capture nature in all her glory.
