Connecting to the Wind Within

Connecting to the Wind WithinIn many traditions, words are not just tools for communication, they are considered powerful forces that can shape reality, influence our well-being, and transform our lives. From the soothing verses of a prayer to the harshness of a thoughtlessly spoken outburst, words have the power to heal or hurt, to build us up or break us down. Words can be a driving force in our world and in our hearts and souls.

Many of you know that I have been writing – a LOT these past several weeks. It gets overwhelming and frustrating at times. There is so much more to this writer’s journey than putting words on paper, it’s a freaking job if I let it be but I have chosen to let it be my source of joy.

I am taking a podcasting class and just recorded my first episode (stay tuned for more information….). I am working like crazy to pack the Write with the Whispers of the Wind weekend with thought provoking and inspiring stuff. It is working… but whew! This is not just a weekend get together, it is a full-fledged event, and I am loving it.

Then there is keeping up with you all each week (what gets me up and gets me going) and the next book keeps poking its energy into the mix. Which to listen to, what to write next, I need food, get up and move, shake those fingers and the booty, oh, and where’s my Diet Coke?

This writing gig can be a challenge, but it fuels my joy and keeps me out of rabbit holes. I find as I let go of my own expectations each day, the words that make it on to my page are often divined rather than driven. I am writing with me, for me (and for you), with the whispers of the wind that circle my office with the door open and the ceiling fan spinning… and I am writing with the voices of my teachers, my distant friends, and those who have gone on before me when I make it into that silent space within that holds the wisdom of them all.

I am connected to the wind within me that whispers tales of distant lands and forgotten voices. Its gentle caress brings back sweet memories or its howling gale speaks of isolation and challenge. When I harness this wind, it brings a rhythm, a drumbeat, a cadence with it that gives life to my narrative.

“Creativity is the Self searching for itself,” said George Gamez, Ph.D., author of How to Catch Lightning in a Bottle. My writing is a personal and very dynamic form of creativity that expresses my unique visions and perceptions. My hope is that it inspires others along the way.

When I get bogged down in the mundane “busy-ness” of this gig I have embraced, I am reminded to get up out of my writer’s chair and do something off screen; to hand write something, to record the new meditations I am writing for the event and the ones that pop into my head when I least expect it.

I have discovered that I can be a morning person and have even made a couple of the 8:00 am coffee cooler writing sessions that Donna K offers us all who want to write – “together”, supported and encouraged.

I am going to bed earlier – I can catch up on prime time via recorded shows and TV just isn’t what it used to be anyway. Or I’m just getting older and know there are better ways to spend my time (like in conversation with my grandson who called this week and just wanted to talk “stuff”.

What do you do when you have been too busy at something and you feel that “nudge” to move along, to get up and do something different? Where does your mind go, your body, your heart, and your soul?

How can you practice creativity daily, challenging yourself to stay in tune with you, your focus, and your intent, to stay intentionally present each day on your journey?

I’d love to hear from you; what you do, what you are challenged by or where you “go” when there is too “much” where you are.

Reply anytime and fill me in.  Let’s share this journey together.

Let the wind serve as your reminder of the forces that shape your thoughts and deeds. Let it encourage you to let your thoughts be fluid and adaptable, to let them evolve as naturally as a breeze grows into a storm.

Use the wind as your muse and embrace change and unpredictability allowing new ideas to emerge as if blown your way on the whispers of the wind.

Writing on ya’ all, see you on the next page.

Many blessings for a fabulous, fun, creatively abundant weekend.
