I was a tree climber as a kid. Being taller than the average “bear”, it was usually easy for me to grab the lower branches and weasel my way up the trunk to perch above it all. We had a fruitless mulberry in the back yard and the leaves were not only many but huge. Funny thing though, they never did really turn bright fall colors, they just dried up and floated to the ground. Lots of raking after school. Then there were the liquid amber trees in the front yard. They were smaller and not so conducive to climbing, probably because they were much younger than the mulberry. Oh, but the shape and color of their leaves was magical. Bright, vibrant, joyful colors that raked into heaps were perfect for jumping into. Right? When is the last time you drifted off into your imagination on a mattress of colored leaves? Do you remember where you went and what you did? This past week has had me buried in a pile of colorful introspection… leafy ideas and wonderings. I have been feeling into the energy of the Equinox, that magical time when the light and dark are once again balanced both in terms of day and night, and my own inner balance. In the past, I’ve written to you about my good enemies Doubt, Procrastination and Resistance. This week I have been playing with a new friend, Resilience. It teaches me about my own inner strength and my capacity to navigate the ups and downs in my world. When walking side by side, it is like a muscle of my soul that needs exercise and attention. It certainly in its mastery, reminds me that I am capable of enduring far more that I ever think I can. I know you have read or heard me speak often of embracing change and challenges as opportunities for learning and transformation. These past several weeks have had me on a roller coaster, riding hills of highs and lows, pivots and turns, wonderous joy and downhill slides. What has been interesting has been the lack of any specific “reason” for the ride. I have been doing what I planned to do (though a pivot or two have been thrown in). I am writing (loving it), traveling (loving it), meeting new folks (loving it), so what’s up with the downs? In this Equinox time of balance, I am reminded that while this Autumnal Equinox marks an external change (moving from the longer summer to the shorter days of winter). It is a great reminder of my own inner landscape that needs constant navigation, understanding, and growth if I am to maintain balance and harmony in my life. Too much of anything, dark or light, good or bad, is not healthy for the soul. I am in New Mexico as you are reading this today and here, I have a candle glowing to acknowledge the light within the dark reminding me that with each pivot and change, there is always a brighter side. I am journaling through this fall equinox, this journey for the past month, the lessons I’m learning and the gratitude I have for all the opportunities that are coming and the people I am meeting along the way. I am open to it all and I am saying YES… just ask me ?
- What do you know about your own resilience and inner strength?
- What creative dreams are calling you?
Next week has two special days marked on the calendar – The 25th is National Daughters Day so I am giving a shout out to mine. She is my joy, my strength, my soundboard, and my heart. Thank you for being you! The 28th is National Son’s Day and I am so very grateful for my son, for his continued wisdom shared across the veils and for the joy and laughter, love and light he brought with him into this world. He wasn’t physically here long enough and yet he is here, every day in the faraway. I am so grateful to have you along for the ride and am looking forward to meeting every one of you along the way. Tomorrow is the first full day of the new season, what will you do to mark the occasion? Are you harvesting all that you have planted this year so you are ready to move into the winter months with a plan? It is time to begin your preparations to Soar into 2024…
