I hear drums, coming closer, then fading
“Where are they?” I wonder silently and I wander, listening, drawn to the sound of the drums, I begin to feel strange, my pulse is matching the drumbeat. I spot a cave-like opening shadowed on the hillside up ahead.
Dizzy, I stop at the entrance to balance myself and peer deep inside. I cannot see an exit, only the darkness calling me with the sound of the drums. It seems, it feels like this is the source of the music, the drums music coming from inside this cavernous like opening.
I am torn between the safety of what I know here and what is beyond there…
Ever find yourself caught between where you are and where you are being drawn to go? Perhaps the pull is to end something and begin something new or to just get up and move; move anywhere, anywhere but where you are (physically and metaphorically).
I’ve been struggling with this “energy” for several years now. Finding myself at an age where I am closer to the end than to the beginning (unless I make it to 140 and then, hey, I’m just middle-aged, halfway), I wonder what I am being called to complete, to start, to move into or away from.
I moved, physical addresses, a year and a half ago and I am still searching for that feel of “home” that I left, my space, my place at this place. I realize that I have not taken the time to make a space for me (oh yes, there is my office where I write to you, there is my craft room waiting for me to come back to crafting, there is my bathroom (yep, got my own here and don’t have to share). It is a beautiful home we made new and remodeled to suit us but I haven’t found “home” here yet.
I have connected with a cottonwood tree outside my office. I sometimes sit with her and contemplate this space. She is comforting but we have not yet “learned” each other’s language so for now, I am blessed to have the comfort of knowing she is there. I will study with her and begin to listen for her stories, her messages to me, her wisdom to be shared.
It is a beginning…
It is a place of starting over, of connecting, of finding “home” again.

Vicki is also an Artist of the Spirit Certified Spiritual and Energetic Life Coach, a Graduate Mentor in the AoS program and a founding member of HeatherAsh Amara’s Warrior Goddess Leadership Team and Facilitator of the Warrior Heart Practice.
