Intentionally Capturing Some You First Time…Having Photo Fun

Call a friend and take your camera or just your phone and go for a drive somewhere close or take a day trip, the place and path are always up to you. Take pictures of everything that grabs your thoughts or makes you turn your head. Pay attention and be open to that little nudge that says “look over here” and (if you are not the one driving) follow the energy and take a peek.

If you are like me and most likely driving, pull over safely and look for what called out for your attention. It could be a tarantula crossing the road (October in CA foothills a good possibility), or a hawk in a tree, maybe it’s a bobcat stalking a gopher or a hidden stand of end of the season wildflowers begging for some last minute attention. Look to the clouds, look to the hills, look at the trees and flowers, look at old barns and new buildings, at bushes, at people walking or horses grazing… look, look, look, and shoot, shoot, shoot… capture the magic that is all around you when you are intentionally looking and listening.

Take a day off and have some fun.

Now make a date with your friend or just yourself, calendar it and show up to go over all your pictures. Give yourself permission to immediately let the ones that don’t say LOOK again and delete them (or if you are like me store them away for a second look later). The point of this exercise and fun YOU day is to pay attention to the living world around you that has reached out and touched your kindred soul.

Great, now you are down to a dozen or so WOW moments that you have reconnected with.

Over this next week, pay attention to all the things you write or read; books, poetry, Facebook and Instagram, emails, television and the junk mail. You are watching and listening for words and sayings, quotes and comments that match or speak to the pictures you have chosen. Don’t make this hard or tedious, don’t make this a chore… let it be FUN, let it be YOU TIME and explore all your possibilities.

Lastly but not least, match the words to your photos and create a lasting memory and message, inspiration, or postcard to share with your family and friends. Enjoy this opportunity to explore and reflect by pairing your beautiful pictures with your creatively composed words and gift yourself some time to learn more about yourself and perhaps even, how you see the world around you.

I’d love to see them and hear about your adventures. Please feel free to write me back or post on the site you are reading this little challenge on…

Looking forward to sharing in your day as you give yourself permission to put YOU FIRST for a few fun filled hours.

Blessings and happy shooting,
Vicki
