Listen in the Stillness of a Rainy Day…

Listen in the stillness of a rainy day…

What I want most for you is to feel and to hear the abundant wisdom, love, and truth that lives inside you. I want you to know, that you know, and can trust the voice of your own sacred heart and soul so deeply, that you can let it guide you from within.” ~V

This past week being in AZ and driving home to CA between the amazing rain storms that have been challenging and yet gifting the west with water, sacred water, I have been playing with gratitude and dis-comfort, joy and dis-ease, visiting friends and missing others.

It was a different week, that’s for sure. In the end, I spent several evenings in contemplation of where I am, where I want to be, and what I want to be and be doing. Sacred creativity brought me back to that space between doing and being, where I could listen to the sound of falling rain and soft music while I beaded the handle of a feather fan and a medicine bag. With each bead I prayed.

I prayed for insight, inspiration, indulgence. I prayed with the setting sun as I wove beads around leather searching for that which will bring satisfaction, gratification, and fulfillment.

I allowed myself to feel, to cry, to laugh, to sleep, to lay eyes open in silent wonder. I remembered, I read, I listened…as Meggan Watterson would say, “Spiritually naked – nothing between me and the Divine but the true voice of my soul” and here is what I heard…

“It is time to abandon, leave behind, and walk away from your fears but not yourself.” I was reminded to read what I write and take it in as my truth, not just the story of my truth (there is a difference). Once again, in the silence of that world, I was reminded that I have the power to Choose to be Happy, that I MUST choose me first, and that I can trust the voice of wisdom that whispers in my ears when the ringing quiets and the restless voices of everything else dim. That I can trust me, without giving in, giving up, compromising, or apologizing when I stand in the authentic truth of me and live intentionally.

The cottonwood tree outside my office beckoned me to listen as the wind whispered through her leaves… I hope you don’t mind my sharing it with you here…

A Long Journey, listening under a whispering tree.

You peel and pull and tear away at all the ‘stories’ that still haunt you today.
You move out of the sun’s rays to escape the shadows always following,
Those layers of should’ve and would’ve and could’ve,
When you shouldn’t, wouldn’t, or couldn’t
Escape the annoying words, the looks, the choices made for you, or by you,
Not really as you when all you wanted so desperately,
Was to just know who the hell ‘you’ were.
You stayed in a shadow to avoid the shadows of what others wanted
For you or thought about you.
You and Perfection are never going to make good bedfellows.
You will never figure out who’s perfection you are striving to be or be like
Or not be or not be like.
You struggle to know… to know You,
To know what is right FOR you.
You’re tired of being afraid.
You want to relish the light not stand in its shadow
Afraid of those shadows that feed on your insecurities.
You don’t know you very well.
How can they presume to know you at all?
What they believe, they want you to believe.
You don’t know for sure what you believe,
You don’t need to, today, it will come.
You have been led by what others believe you should believe when
What you need is to be reborn, reformed,
Transformed, found, sought out, encouraged.
All such a mystery, but that is the journey, right?
The Mystery of it all envelops the senses, all of them,
When you can just be still enough to listen.
Look at the letters that spell listen,
They spell silent, I am guessing by no accident.
You see, the solutions to all these great Mysteries
Stand open armed to each of us, to all of us,
To you and to me.
Will you come to know in this journey called life,
That victory lies in the surrender,
Stepping out of the shadow that hides your shadow,
That hid your light and kept you thinking
They were right?
No more, no longer, shadows be gone.
They can’t define the course for you,
That keeping up, or matching up, or out running anything matters.
The inevitable – You will one day surrender
But you won’t give up.
You will listen in the silent space to the songs between the words.
You’ll write your own song, your destiny.
You will give it your best shot and
Take the hero’s journey, master each challenge,
Watch the shadows fade without the food of your thoughts feeding them.
Can you hear the cheers above the jeers
When you step into the light?
Let go the fears fed you by years of listening to the noise.
Silent, you listen.
You hear the quiet whispers on the wind carrying divine inspiration,
An invitation to be all you can be.
If it doesn’t serve you, uplift you, feed your joy
Silence the noise.
It isn’t yours to play with or in or around or God forbid, under.
This is the silent you
Speaking out from under a fading shadow
As the sun rises to squelch the darkness that threatened
To surround the very essence of truth,
The depth of you, set free.
You listened, heartfully, soulfully, intentionally from the depths of you,
Freely you, authentically.

The journey begins with a single word, listen.

Will you listen to the song of your heart, the whispers on the wind, the sweet surrender of a questing soul as it rises with the morning light?

I invite you to be YOU, freely and authentically, you.

In the blessings of the sunrise and sunsets, I heard my heart sing in the silence of a gray-pink sky dashed with crimson, orange, and gold. Bold, I heard told, is the hero’s journey.

Happy Trails.
