Overcoming A Creatives Chaos

Overcoming a Creative’s Chaos

Overcoming a Creative’s Chaos

Get up with determination to go to be with satisfaction, plan your day or break away. Overcoming a creatives chaos…

Daydreaming as I was getting up this morning, going over my to do list in my head, the phone rings. Damn spam callers, where was I? Oh yeah, dreaming…. Drat. I lost the dream. Must be time to get up!

Stretching, I head for the kitchen for my morning Diet Coke (coffee and tea have never called to me). Bless hubby, he went to town this morning and brought me a fountain drink. He knows I like them better over ice than out of the can.

I see the clock on the microwave and an internal alarm goes off, yikes! I have a class in 45 minutes. I stayed in the snuggle covers a bit too long this morning (thank you spam caller for rousing me out of my reverie). I’ll just scramble a couple of eggs and hit the office.

“Yes, Darby, I’ll get one done for you too,” those big brown eyes pleading from her crouched position on the floor. She is completely convinced that every time I approach the stove or refrigerator for that matter, that she will be on the receiving end of whatever comes out of the frig or off the stove (or more frequently than I should admit) out of the microwave.

While I’m chopping onions, I remember I left my writing notebook in the craft room. Swinging the barn doors open, I shuffle over to my desk still covered with paints and brushes from the class I took with Amber last week. I wonder if that painting is really finished?

Taking a peek, I think I see a waterfall unfinished behind the head of my creative self, winking at me from the page. That’s a quick fix I think as I grab some nautical blue, turquoise, cerulean and white paints, squeezing just a dab into the KFC single serving bowls that are such perfect temporary palettes. Water, flowing colors of blue on blue begin to drift down the paper behind the image of my creative self –

“Holy mackerel, the eggs.”

I toss the paints aside and run back to the kitchen to find I hadn’t turned the stove on. Whew! Swirling fork whips up the chicken’s morning gift into a tasty treat for this human’s tummy.

Oh shoot – It’s 8:45. Eggs done, soda in hand, I head for the office. But wait… there’s the mail on the counter. I better take it with me. Setting down the plate and cup, I take a quick peek at it – junk, junk, junk… oh, and surprise, a check from the government, says it’s a 2020 tax refund. Who cares why or where from…Happy dance! There goes the phone again.

My alarm vibrates in my pocket – CLASS TIME IN FIVE… off to the office with just enough time to hit the necessary room. Breathe… time out on the sacred throne. I pick up my journal and scribble a few notes, a poem,

Spring has sprung,
Flowers color the bushes
Their buds done,
Oh crap, my class….
Into the office for inspiration
And writing fun.

The moral to my story… maybe I could plan tomorrow, tonight before I go to bed.

I’ll write down my “stuff to get done” tomorrow so my brain will let me sleep this night. I’ll set the alarm with enough time to hang out in the dream and turn off the phones ringer to block out the 6:45 am spammers. I will give myself time to get up and get going.

Maybe… I’ll plan my day tomorrow, tonight, so chaos stays away, I get breakfast and I make class on time.

Creativity flows when the brain knows it has time to be, be present in the moment, in the flow, in the knowing that my words matter, that I matter. To quote George Lorime (thank you Donna Kozik), “You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”

May your day/week/life be planned with creativity and spontaneity; may your sleep be restful, and your dreams carry you away to the stars.
