Another challenging week of pivots, turns, tumbles, and unexpected tasks. Makes one wonder, if there will ever come another day that will actually play out as planned?
Still in AZ tonight as I write when I thought I would be back in CA. My house here called out for some attention as the garbage disposal slowly and peacefully came to a complete halt announcing it was finished. The icemaker hollered for some attention if I wanted it to produce healthy ice. The hot water heater had had its fill of sediment and challenged me to drain it or waste gallons of water waiting on it to heat up. Funny how our homes can talk to us or balk at the prospect of their neglect.
These have certainly made me take stalk of the love I have for this place and pivot to spend a couple of extra days rebuilding her trust and love. Houses are living beings as well and they can love us or challenge us to continue to love them.
I realized it was a bit of a metaphor for life, right? Plan with purpose and watch GUS (I love this analogy – Great Universal Spirit) laugh… propel through life with no plan and the giggles just get louder as you react to your days instead of living them with a plan, intentionally.
I took a bit of a tumble off a slippery step, the fall stopped by a hat/coat rack made of iron horseshoes, to bring my week up short. As I sat on the floor contemplating what had just happened and taking stalk of where I might be paying the price in aches and pains, I asked what the “bleep” the lesson was here?
I was propelling myself through a list of to-dos, making calls, setting appointments and reacting in every moment to what needed to be done rather than taking the time to intentionally create a plan, one room at a time evaluate the health of my sacred space in this desert place… heating, plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, locks, and laundry.
I accepted the extra days as a gift to be in this place that feeds my soul and made arrangements to get my Grandma duties covered back in CA. Relaxing into the time I had left I visited a special place that holds many dear memories. I sure questioned the lesson in the fall and the why’s and what did I need to learn from taking the same journey made by another last year. Ouch was all I could come up with and spent the next day in bed nursing bruises and embarrassment all while trying to understand the lesson.
What I got in a few words was the need to FOCUS…focus on where I was stepping and, in the direction, I was headed. Focus on the task at hand and not be distracted by “stuff” that comes up and attempts to derail the dream. Focus on me and not all that needs my attention. Remember the reason, the passion, and the purpose for my being at this house, on this planet, at this time, on this journey.
Can you name the vision you hold for your life? Are you living it, creating your own reality? Or are you struggling with that age old question, “Where do I begin” or “What if I fall” or “What if I don’t succeed?”
We’ve all heard the famous quote, a trip of a thousand miles begins with the first step – watch where you are stepping. How about this one…How to eat an elephant, take one bite at a time (got no quip for this one except that it might be a tough chew, chew anyway).
The same is true of intentionally living in alignment with your life purpose. You hold the key. You decide when to take that first step or which bite you take today. One step or one bite at a time, you have the power to create the change you want to see in your life, to live intentionally.
Take a few minutes today and write the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear this question, “What is your passion, what is your purpose? Can you align the two answers? Can you envision passionately living your life’s purpose, intentionally?
Take a few deep breaths and exhale any doubt you may be feeling once this answer pops into your mind. Hold that vision of you passionately living with purpose, intentionally creating the life you want. Feel the immense gratitude you have for this beautiful journey and ask for opportunities and people to continue to come into your life to support, encourage and assist you with your vision.
There is no going back, you cannot change the beginning. There is only where you are and how you are moving forward. The good news is that you can change the ending by living your life intentionally, you hold the key.
May your weekend be filled with steady progress, steadfast steps, and tender bites of that luminous dream meal that is bubbling in your pot of all possibility.
To happy trails with not too many potholes and handrails on the stairs your encounter.
