Stand Facing The Flames

Standing Beside the Fire

As you all are reading this, I will be packing and heading to the airport for my flight back to CA. It has been an intense week of regrouping, silence, dreaming, and looking through the fire, so to speak.

When I wrote to you last week, I was headed to the annual Storm Eagle Gathering with the currently enrolled students in the Lynn Andrews Mystery School. The week ended with a ceremony of healing and celebration as those present worked with their grief, shared their stories, and identified the gifts of wisdom they received from Lynn. Now the journey continues in a new and exciting way, still with Lynn and the Sisterhoods magnificent teachings ever near, as Jack Crimmins wrote, in the faraway.

I’ve spent a good portion of my adult life looking for mentors, teachers, and wisdom keepers to teach me, show me the way, ignite my curiosity, and stoke the inner flame of my own sacred wisdom. Finding the right person at the right time can accelerate that process of change that we search for, but the truth of it all is for me, that in the absence of those special people, I can still rely on myself.

I have spoken before of having all that I need, I just need to remember that I do. We carry within us all we need to know to keep our journeys moving ever upward and forward as we traverse our paths to self-remembering and enlightenment.

To recall Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, there comes a time in an ordinary life where the traveler hears a Call and answers it or doesn’t. If the Call is answered, the journey begins and for sure, there will be challenges to be met along the way. The secret is to keep going, sometimes through the fire, sometimes around it. Let that metaphoric fire be what drives you, challenges you, inspires you, and teaches you.

Stand facing the flames, look into them, for their messages, look beyond them for the next steps, and stand with them as they “burn” up what no longer needs to make the journey with you.

When you find yourself on a new path, maybe not sure which direction to choose, which way to turn, and wishing for guidance, listen. Turn into yourself, take refuge in your own sacred garden, meet with your council of wisdom keepers, and discern the direction for yourself.

Lynn told us many years ago that the great trees were falling. She also shared that the Great Dreamer was awakening and that it was time for us each to pick up our own dream and carry it now, for ourselves.

We may not know what our “right” answer is when we think it through with our minds (ego-mind) but we have the innate ability to move within and ask, let go of our own expectations, wait patiently, and an answer will come.

Lynn’s words will always ring through the truth that I seek myself as she was/is one of my greatest teachers both as a wise woman and as a human being. She taught me how to look within, to practice listening, to trust what I heard, and to believe what I imagined. She taught us all that we can be our own greatest teacher and stand beside the fire, be its ally, drawn on its heat, and live intentionally, diversely, joyously, expansively, alive with the wisdom of our own sacred body, mind, heart, and soul.

What I do know in this moment of writing to you, is that the key to my own growth and movement forward on this Path of Heart, lies in the unknown. What I do know for sure is that what I do know is but a small, perhaps even minute piece of the Great Mystery that holds all knowing.

  • Do you know, as your truth, that joy exists within you even when things feel like they are falling apart?
  • Do you know, can you trust, that you can find that joy when you surrender to the challenges and move through them?
  • Can you find the beauty in the darkness and keep moving, emerging into the light, braver, stronger, joyously confident in your tomorrows for having met the challenge?
  • Will you answer the Call?

I am!

Calling in my joy-filled traveler, I bid you all Happy Trails.
