Taxed, Taxes, and Chocolate

TAXED TAXES and Chocolate

“When we laugh, we give ourselves over to the immediacy of the present moment.” ~ DailyOm Inspiration

Three weeks ago, I started out on the journey to April 15 aka, tax time. Yuck!!!

Not my favorite or dare I say, perhaps the least favorite if even a favorite thing on my to do list. This year I made an appointment two weeks out, giving myself plenty of time to gather and calculate, find forms and fill in numbers. It is always a stressful time for me and this year was no exception. It was pure chaos…

After calling to extend my appointment, I took a much needed couple of days break only to get back into the paperwork and find that there were three months missing in my business statements. What? Re-boot. Then there was no 1099 from VRBO (they sent me one last year that nearly sent me over the edge as it included all the money they collected (ha, on my behalf) and did not separate what they never sent me, aka their fees and the taxes they are supposed to pay again, on my behalf.

That was last years crazy. This year, no 1099 – two hours on the telephone with you guessed it, a computer voice and then another and finally a live person from who knows where. Seems the rule changed again and unless they disburse funds to you more than 200 times, no 1099. Feeling blessed for my AZ home and the guests who visit – even if it drives me nuts at tax time.

Fast forward to another call, in nearly stressed-out tears, for yet another date to visit the CPA and find out he is out sick. Yeah for me, get well soon Dave. Last Monday comes and I wake up cheerful and relaxed, and call the CPA’s office just for fun. “Hey Maxine, it’s Vicki, again.” A not so cheerful voice asks what she can do for me and I reply giggling, “Just wanted to let you know I will actually see you today.”

“What time?” she queries. “At 10:00 but I can come sooner, I’m ready. Surprise, I’m ready.”

Confused, she confirms my appointment and tells me that Dave’s nine o’clock has just walked in and I tell her I was just trying to be funny on a Monday morning, She replied “Everyday is funny around here.” Kerplop went that haha moment.

Long story short, the taxes are done and I ate chocolate cake to celebrate. And then there was the chocolate dove candy in the fridge left over from Easter. Yum…

It was a taxing couple of weeks, but the taxes are done and now I am working off the chocolate that helped get me through it and celebrate the completion.

Rewrite time on the next book and a trip to AZ are on the horizon now. Creativity feeds my soul  much better than chocolate and is less visible on my hips (finally a jean size smaller).

Happy dance through it all, youngest grandson won three beautiful buckles at his horseshow a couple of weeks ago and oldest grandson (both are now red belts in their karate journeys) has been invited to learn to be a teaching assistant.

Love and joy abound even through tax season.

May you find all the little things that bring you joy as you celebrate the warmer days (and for my wonderful followers down under) may you gather joy in the fruits of your labors as you prepare to snuggle in.

Here’s to rainbows and lollipops…
