The Sweet Sounds of Spring

The Sweet Sounds of Spring

When the smoke from your burnout clears…

I flew! Yep – short jumper flight just an hour and a half, but I flew.  First time since 2018.  I couldn’t believe it has been so long but the thought of a ten-hour drive with gas prices going up at every stop along the way, had me feeling a bit trepidacious (that may be a new word 😊) So I flew.

I’ve never been afraid of flying but the entire process from start to on board and flying leaves a lot to be desired for me these days. Nothing is easy and always the hands over the head scan because of new knee joint.  Invariably (I think it must be my bra strap or deodorant) something requires further inspection and there is never anything there.  God bless the TSA guys and all they must put up with and do to keep us all flying “safe”.  I hope they know they are appreciated even if they don’t get told enough.

Safely in Arizona and at my home away from home, I inhale the beauty of the desert that is just beginning to bloom, I am greeted by the song of a hummingbird flitting about the ocotillo out front. I love my house here, my sanctuary filled with equine art and amazing crystals and stones and books and yet, unlike my everyday home, it is clear and quiet. The energy is slower and softer. I open the back door and let in the sound of the waterfall on our little pond and hear the doves cooing even as the quail scatter when they see me. There is a wonderful breeze that teases a song out of the wind chimes as their voice fills in the space between the sounds of nature and I am happy.

I have come on the spur of the moment, for a few days between guests that we love hosting here.  I am going to write (or so I thought) and make a video or two for the course I am writing (or so I thought). Things unfolded in ways I had not planned but again, I am releasing more of that knotted up tenseness that comes when the best laid plans run amuck and off the track. Instead of feeling derailed, I am leaning into grateful as an old friend reaches out and we meet for an amazing brunch at the Village Café and Crepery (love their raspberry chicken crepe with avocado added).

Hurrying home, I was blessed by a wonderful time of story sharing with David K John, a Navajo artist whose work graces the walls of my house here. He brought his amazing daughter Hadibah (who I know will be doing some cool painting for my grandsons) and his lovely wife Kathleen who shared her love of ceramic sculpture and jewelry making.  Talk about a talented family. I could listen to them talk story all day. Each of David’s paintings has a story and I am writing them as he shares them so I can attach them to the back of the paintings and let them live on through his art.

I have shared time with my dear neighbor Kay and another friend from Flagstaff who came down to hang out for a while and together the three of us went to lunch with our friend Lynn. So much for the best laid plans of mice and women (lol) but what a wonderful derailment.

I will get the writing done as this is due in your inboxes and across my social media pages in just 48 hours and tomorrow, I board the plane home again, taking with me the joy of community, of friends, of wonderful food, fellowship, and fun.

Perhaps tonight I will make one of those class videos, I did get the closet cleaned out here and new shelves put in.  A carload to Goodwill, I know there be folks who will be able to use what was just filling space in corners that were beginning to feel stuffed instead of free.

Speaking of videos, if you have a spare moment to watch, here is the link to the interview I did with Weam Namou, or the Facebook link.

Another reconnection to an old friend who gifted me the opportunity to talk about my book You First.

Keep a watch out for some upcoming specials and more interviews to come as You First makes her way out into the world, paving the way for her big sister to follow in June. Yep, we have a launch date for Get Off the Shelf. Lift off date is June 20, 2022, a Summer Solstice launch party.

With gratitude in my heart for this wonderful community that I hope you all feel a part of as you share my journey each week, I send you many blessings for an abundant and prosperous Spring. May the gentle breezes send you songs, the blossoming flowers gift you with smiles and may you reach out and reconnect with friends, family, wave at a stranger and smile at everyone you pass.

Blessed be the beauty in our days.
