Unleashed and Unmapped

unleashed and unmapped

We have been back in Arizona for this past week, enveloped in our home’s peace and solitude. It’s in the stillness and quiet of this desert space that we have a chance to regroup, to reboot, to renew the energy zapped from all the doctor’s appointments and what if’s and when’s.

This place is our sanctuary, our home away from home that feeds us when we’ve run out of nourishment. The rocks, the crystals, the waterfall, the medicine wheel, the sacred wall around us that gives us such privacy. This is a place that holds friendship in a neighborhood that we can call home.

Fifty-three years ago Tuesday, we were married. It’s hard to believe that it has been fifty-eight years since we met. Decades upon decades of life and living, of joy and laughter, of sorrow and grief, and we’re still here, together. This is our celebration time in AZ. It’s our annual “just us” trip to a place that feeds us both beyond the wonderful food we find at our local favorite watering holes.

I’m filled every day, with gratitude for the abundance in my life, and for the love, encouragement, and support of those I call family and friends.

As I sit here in this desert stillness, I realize how deeply life keeps unfolding, even when I feel unraveled. There are seasons when the weight of appointments, tests, and waiting rooms feels like more than I can hold. Yet somehow, life keeps encouraging me through the simplest things. I find solace in a breeze caressing my skin, the quail darting across the yard, even the way the sunset light catches a stone and turns it to gold.

The cacti all over the property grow and wither with the seasons and the rain, reminding me that patience is the key; being patient and waiting on the rain to replenish and refill me.

This place has taught me that healing is not only about bodies, it’s about my spirit as well. It’s about remembering that no matter how fragile or heavy I feel, there is still something strong and beautiful just waiting on the rain to wash away the dust so the sunlight can turn it to gold.

The rocks and crystals around me have weathered countless storms. They are a wonderful reminder that time itself can be a healer, that the rough edges of today will soften under tomorrow’s sun.

To those walking through their own desert, know this: you are not alone. There is a quiet strength that lives in you, even when you feel empty. There is a circle of wonderous beings, seen and unseen, holding you in ways you cannot always feel, but they are, none the less, present and real.

Let the stillness feed you when the world feels too loud. Let love, in all the ways it arrives, wrap itself around you like a sacred wall.

Even here, even now, you are part of a story still being written; one of courage, grace, and the kind of hope that refuses to give up.

I hope you have a place you can go to replenish you when you feel empty. It could be a waterfall that feeds your soul as the sound of water crashes into the pool beneath it. Is it an ancient tree that supports and holds you with wisdom and strength. Perhaps it is a single blossom on your favorite rose bush that reminds you of the unfolding beauty that lies deep within your very heart.

Wherever you find sanctuary and hope, healing and restoration, renewal and rejuvenation, I hope you will give yourself permission to put You First and take the time to be present in that place whenever you need it.

To desert homes, giant trees, waterfalls and rose blossoms… unleash yourself and don’t fear the unmapped trail ahead.

In Love and Light.
