Whispers in the Wind

Whispers in the Wind

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is ‘thank you’,
it will be enough.”
 ~Eckhart Tolle

Whispers in the WindI was awakened by a cacophony of birds blaring in through the open door. The weather is cooling, and I sleep with the door by my side of the bed open, and relish the fresh, cool air that sooths the morning. I am ready for the “heat” to be done, in my days and metaphorically, in my life. I am ready for some lazy mornings, just hanging out between the sheets with my eyes closed and my brain on “rest” mode.

Most mornings that isn’t possible as noise is an irritation, like chalk on a board when it wrests me from my reverie.  If I drift off and the noise interrupts my quiet, as in neighbors leaf blowers, my husbands in and out activities way too early in my morning, or motorcycles racing off the nearby stop sign, I end up getting up like a mama bear awakened from hibernation way too early. Growling…..

That is not who I want to be. I am learning that when the world around me wakes me up, I should stretch, welcome the fresh air and soft morning light, and just get my arse up out of that bed and DO something. I am learning that it doesn’t have to be the first trip of the day to the refrigerator. I am learning that most of the time, there isn’t anything in my email that can’t wait an hour. I am finding out that slow to “get up” better serves my long game.

Today I am on kid duty. The youngest grandson is on early out schedule so I will be picking him up at one. Maybe we will make some adjustments to that suit of armor this week, the belt keeps slipping down on the slick surface of the leather. I am thinking belt loops. Or maybe it will be a trip to the yogurt shop.

I pick up his brother at 3:15. I cannot believe that he is a teenager and next year will be in high school. If they aren’t a constant reminder that each day is precious, I don’t know what is.

There are days when I drift, purposeless, and then there are the days when my 360-degree vision gets me so wrapped up in all that I could do and want to do, that my to do list gets totally ignored until a friend reminds me to narrow that down to, I don’t know, like maybe to 90 degrees.

I remember reading in DailyOm that when an idea is meant to be, it comes back to us time and time again, kind of like this Friday Food for Thought thing I’m doing. It anchors me into my week, keeps me aware of where I am, how I am feeling, and how I am being in my world. I am reminded when the going gets tough, it doesn’t mean it is the wrong path, or the wrong decision, it just means there is more for me to learn and experience so the journey gets smoother.

When I find myself mired down in difficulties, hitting roadblocks, or just confused about the direction I want to pursue, chances are I already know if it is something I am meant to pursue or if I should let it go.

Butterflies and bellyaches are pretty good indicators of choices made right or wrong. They are also the most powerful reminder that I just need to slow down, move into silence, and remember to move within and council with myself and “my crew” for the “real” answers.

Success achieved through each challenge is all the more exciting and leads to a lasting lesson in perseverance and presence in each day.

Listen to the whispers in the wind, are they carrying laughter or song to you today?

Are they quietly sharing the wisdom of your ancestors as they tickle your hair and tease your senses?

Let the wind carry your voice, your creative spirit and good wishes for yourself and your world, to their perfect destination.

Gift your prayers and gratitude to the gentle breeze as you walk into your morning open to all the days possibilities.

Start your day with you at the top of your priority list and make it a great day for you and everyone you meet.

Listening to the quiet whispers on the wind and wishing you all a beautiful day.
