Winging My Way Through the Piles

Clearing up my writing space

I had an author mastermind class last week and we talked about what we could accomplish in the next couple of weeks, a micro-intention. Mine went along with what I started in the business authors group I belong to, clearing up my writing space. I filled my recycle bin (a tall kitchen trash bin) with all the papers I’ve printed out and “kept” just in case. I looked them over, read what felt like good stuff, and then let them go.

I started a new flash drive for 2026 and set aside 2025 where I can access all it holds as I begin to fill 2026 with new writing, new classes, new inspiration from others, and new family memories.

Clearing out my space is more than shuffling things on my desk, throwing papers away, and picking up all the pens and spiral notebooks that I find in every recess of my office. Seems I can never find the right one for a project or call, I start a new notebook and then of course, the old one shows up. That means tearing out the pages by subject and stapling them in their corresponding notebook, so everything is in one place.

Then there are the digital files…I have mini-bins and drawers with little boxes of flash drives and external hard drives. My mom was a keeper of duplicate and triplicate paper files (that’s where I got boxes of binders when it was all shredded after she was gone). Now I have binders filling shelves with papers I haven’t looked at in years.

Little by little, one surface, one drawer, one shelf at a time, I’ll get there. How about you? What is cluttering up your sacred space and ready to either move on to a new student, i.e. books, crystals, stones, bags, feathers, paintings. You get my drift. And what is ready for the recycle bin to move on and become something new for someone else?

Clearing space for new things and new ideas is always a challenge for me. I get into the cleaning out and get bogged down with something that feels real important in that moment, something that was at the bottom of a pile that has been accumulating for months. I have to ask myself, how really important was that as I scan it on its way to the “bin.”

Letting go is hard for me, I am a keeper. Luckily, not a hoarder but I do like notebooks, ink pens, books, and socks, rocks and crystals. 😊

What one small, micro-intention could you accomplish in the next week or two? Don’t make it overwhelming or exhausting, just easy-peasy, “git ‘er done” doable.
