Writing About Some Very Real “Stuff”

Writing About Some Very Real “Stuff”

Writing about some serious stuff

When your aviator enthusiast son-in-law and your equine scientist daughter are expecting their second boy… Grandma paints the nursery wall. Care bears beware, horses in the air… I added the Reba quote for this week’s extra giggle.

These past couple of weeks have had me writing about some very real “stuff” I have been walking through. I didn’t want to write heavy, I didn’t want to write sad, but I promised myself when I started these little Friday snacks, that I would write real, that I would write me. I guess that means, the good, the bad and the ugly, the unfriendly, sad, and frustrating. But it also means writing the bliss-full, joy filled, excited, spontaneous, crazy, creative, inventive, aging, grandmother, mother, human being that I am.

One of the wonderful aspects of any gathering is the storytelling, the laughter, the hugs, the re-connections, and the pure joy of being with friends, family, strangers, and kindred spirits, even amid all the frustration, grief, and loss. My takeaway from these past couple of weeks boils down to one BIG lesson I want to pass along to you all.

Are you ready? Here it is!

#1 – SMILE… yep, smile when you pass someone on the street, smile at a passing car and even wave, smile at a grumpy old man or a wailing youngster in a grocery cart (make a funny face or stick your tongue out). Yep, SMILE… guarantee it will make your day brighter and you may just turn someone else’s day around.

#2 – LAUGH… yep, laugh with someone, anyone. Tell a funny story, read that joke your best friend texted you, email your siblings with a funny story you remember about them and if you are lucky enough to still have parents and grandparents, even great grandparents, call ‘em up and ask them to share a funny memory they have of you and LAUGH together.

My new friend, Roberta Gold, has a wonderful business, LAUGH FOR THE HEALTH OF IT! https://Laf4U.com. I “borrowed this little meme from her newsletter several weeks ago, but it seems just perfect for mine, for today (and now I have a really good reason to love my wrinkles).

If that isn’t the perfect way to start a fabulous weekend, I can’t think what might… unless maybe it’s with a good dirty joke? OK, to give you some additional ammo for grins… here is my kid friendly dirty joke –

A white horse fell in a mud puddle!

Get it? Ahhhh, come on, at least it’s “dirty” and it could be funny, especially when it begins a conversation with an eight-year old about the horse being gray. Think about that one and SMILE.

Love ya all,
Vicki
