You Can’t Silence Your Dream Any Longer

You can't silence your dreamI closed my eyes, tired from a day on screens. The darkness behind my eyelids slowly deepened as a sense grew inside that something was missing, a nagging feeling that something was waiting for me to explore. It pushed sleep aside and stirred up the butterflies in my belly.

As that sense of anxiety began to grow, my legs restless, I got out of bed and trod through the dark house and plopped back down in my comfy chair, allowing the cool breeze of the spinning ceiling fan to slow the beating of my heart and the butterflies making mischief in my belly.

The light had long since faded from the room, and once again, I closed my eyes inviting sleep to come. Instead, I found myself engulfed in a darkness that seemed to sparkle with ideas. Dream seeds were wildly dancing in my imagination, each vying for a place to plant themselves.

One caught my attention as others faded. I focused on the brightness growing and it felt like there was a halo blossoming around that little sparkle, those fluttering butterflies telling me that I needed to pay attention, my mind reminding me that this could be another blue door.

Opening my eyes, I found myself awake in a strange landscape filled with bushes bearing fruit, trees adorned with colorful flowers, and rocks everywhere in wild colors of purple, neon pink and glittering gold. I walked over to one of the trees that shaded a purple rock and decided to sit down and take it all in.

A flower floated down into my lap, its petals flapping as though it were trying to speak, little eyes adorned the tips of the pistils in its center, their piercing gaze giving way to the voice of the petals.

“We are the eyes of your dream come to see you,” one of the petals on this purplish pink, hibiscus looking flower flapped.

Taken aback, I looked around this strange place for the body behind the voice as the flower seemed to jump up and down in my lap demanding I pay attention to it.

“Who are you? Where are you?” I asked looking all around only to have my attention pulled back to the flower flopping wildly about on my thighs. I picked it up and watched in astonishment as the petals began to move again in the motion of a mouth talking.

“I am Hibiscus Honey,” the flower said aloud. “I have come to you to remind you of your dreams and your connection to them, to the energy of these dreams and their connection to your authentic soul, your creative spirit.”

“I want you to remember the sweetness in life that comes when you are living your dream,” she continued. “Like honey fills the caverns in a beehive, your dreams are filling every corner of your heart. You can no longer deny them. You can’t silence your dream any longer,” she exclaimed bluntly, and with those powerful words she was gone.

Ever had a dream that sat you back on your heels, called you to question where you were and what you were doing today?

This was a powerful one for me and I wanted to share that after it happened, I sat about visualizing what the dream that seemed to be stalking me actually was. Turns out, it is asking me to turn around and look back at the things I used to do that fed my soul, exhausted me in the best possible ways, and connected me with people and places I had never seen or been before.

This bright and shining “star” that caught my attention and led me to the land of crazy colors and strange opposites was showing me that it was time to return to those things that light up my world.

I am ever so grateful for the teachers in my life who have empowered me to believe that what I imagine, what I dream, is real.
