Cheesecake Blizzards, Computers, and Sunshine

Everything’s Coming up YellowSoaking in the wonder of a spring in AZ, sunshine, wildflowers, birds everywhere and a new moon. Beauty in bountiful doses topped off at DQ with a Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard. Can you say Yum?

All was just wonder, beauty and yumminess until my laptop decided not to talk to my flatscreen monitor and these old eyes had to increase the font size so I don’t have to lean in to 6” from the screen to see what I was typing…thank heavens for my computer savior Jess at the Bit Works. I thought I lost his genius when he moved to the east coast, but tech is a miracle (when it works) and he got into my system here in AZ from back there somewhere and voila”, I am back to writing, sitting upright in my chair.

And did I mention weeds? Holey guacamole! There has been more winter/spring rain here this year according to my landscape guru John, than he has seen in decades. The desert weed population is happy as a hog in mud. 😊

The whole landscape is coming up yellow – yellow blossoms on trees, yellow flowering weeds, yellow daisy-like blossoming bushes line the roadways, and the saguaro needles are glowing golden in the sunshine, the barrel cactus bursting with yellow crowns.

I am brought up short and most pleasantly surprised, by the peace and stillness that this place holds for me. I remember that this is where I come back to me when I get lost or sucked down a rabbit hole or scattered in the chaos of the world and my everyday life.

It is here that I return in grateful prayer for the blessings of this land, the gift of this space, and the abundance of love and life that my world also holds. This is where my creativity soars, and my spirit finds home.

In Elizabeth Foleys newsletter last week, she talks about creativity, about getting out of or getting in our own way creatively. Like saying there isn’t enough time or noticing that what you are doing isn’t turning out like what you imagined it should because you were told that’s what it should be… that is getting in your own way. Getting out of your way can be a mindset or attitude adjustment. Elizabeth says it “means to overcome the thoughts, excuses and limiting beliefs that stop us from doing the creative things we want to be doing.”

Whitney Freya says in her fabulous book Rise Above, that the “NEW Creativity is not about painting pretty pictures, or products that sell, it is about you aligning with your natural state – and creating energy in each moment.”

If you have been blocking the path to your creativity, I invite you to join me in the high desert of AZ May 31-Jun 2 this year and Write with the Whispers on the Wind. Come and unleash your inspiration and your fabulous imagination by tapping into your own inner wisdom using creativity as your key, and sacred art and writing as your tools. And speaking about weeds… they produce an abundance of seeds that guarantees they will return the next year.

  • What are the seeds of creativity that you are planting this spring?
  • What “fruit” do you want to harvest this fall?

Albert Einstein reminds us that “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

Let’s nurture the seeds of your creativity so that when inspiration, fickle as it can be, takes a day or two off, the creativity you have cultivated will keep you writing or making a Chef Ramsey worthy dinner for your family.

To your creative juices flowing freely this spring.
