Each Day a New Journey

Each Day A New JourneyPeace and beauty fall across the surrounding hills, greenbelts growing into the foothills joining the snowline rising to the snow-covered mountains. Mount Whitney is wearing her winter cloak and rises above the San Joaquin Valley on the west and the Owens Valley to the east.

I’m waking to the fresh scent of an after-rain morning, clean, soft, the breezes whispering poetry in unison with burgeoning blossoms as the clouds gather for more precious water deliveries.

Sometimes those things that are so necessary for our survival may challenge us to “live through them” as we navigate each day. Like the rain, so needed but coming sometimes, too much at a time, and there isn’t “room” for it when it arrives.

  • Have you kept “space” in your life for the blessings and the challenges when they arrive?
  • Do you have a plan for those times when “too much” comes and action is needed to save what you can and make a path for overflow to be carried around you and not wash you away?

I know those questions sound like messy metaphors but as I write to you today, life is challenging many of us in unexpected ways. We have an abundance of things that may not serve us and an overflow of challenges that we need to circumnavigate to stay grounded and centered.

  • How do you center yourself each day, to face the day with optimism, your heart open to the little sparks of light and not shut down in fear of…?

I spent some time in circle with one of my favorite teachers, HeatherAsh Amara this past weekend. One of the things she brought up for the group was the question of grounding ourselves each day. It is a practice that I have let slide as the years have moved on and I have moved literally.

I got up on Monday morning this week and recommitted to a grounding practice, not just when I rise, but throughout the day. When I got up, I stretched and felt the earth below the floor supporting me. I remembered my roots.

Driving across town to an appointment, I reminded myself to breathe and practiced while at the stop lights. In… hold… out… breathe.

When I walked across the crowded parking lot at the grocery store, I remembered heel toe, lead with my hips, move in unison with the energy of me and connect with each step.

  • How might you practice creatively stretching yourself to stay in tune with you, your focus and your intent as you navigate life; the good, the bad, the challenging and the rewarding days ahead?

I’d love to hear from you: what you do, what you are being challenged with and if you need support, reach out. Where do you “go” when there is “too much” where you are?

Let’s share the journey in mutual support of each other’s paths.

**  As I work on the Writing Retreat coming early summer this year, I am reminded of the power of words and the energy and meaning they can carry, even in the space between the words. Click here if you would like to be on the I’m interested” list for the “rest of the story” as it unfolds

At our retreat, you will be writing with the voice of your own inner wisdom. There will be writing suggestions, an art project to accompany and hold the power of your words, your writing experience. There will be shamanic journeying to “listen” to the wisdom of your ancestors or your power animals, or even the whispers of the wind as it blows around the needles of the giant saguaros or creates ripples on the face of the water.

Space is limited this first year, so please let me know if you are interested. Our dates are May 30-June 2 (correction from last weeks May 30-June1).
